Classical music is music written in a certain manner during a certain time period and it was almost always written to tell a story. Whether it is music from an opera or just classical symphonies like those written by Beethoven or Bach classical music was always written with great emotion and used to tell some sort of story. Sometimes that story was something very personal to the composer that we as listeners may never understand or know about. Other times the story is very obvious and tries to bring us a long as it weaves its tale. Many people enjoy classical music because they get it. They can listen to a full symphony and at least understand that the composer had a complete thought they were trying to get out and they can appreciate the way that the thought moves the music. That is what many people find so attractive about classical music, it is driven by emotion but many times the listener is left to decide for themselves what that emotion is because it is not readily available. It is difficult to listen to one minute of a two hour symphony and make an opinion about classical music and maybe that sense of patience to enjoy good music is what make classical music fans feel like they have something over other music fans. There is no more effective music than music that plays at your emotions and when you find an image on a Beethoven poster or a Wagner poster that image will usually try and correspond to the emotion that composer is famous for conveying. Mozart posters like to show the image of the composer in his wig but it is the eyes of Mozart that you need to look at next time you look at a Mozart poster. A Bach poster and a Verdi poster are more than likely going to contain images of the harsh emotions that both of those composers are known for while a Chopin poster is destined to show the layered beauty of his music. People will buy Beethoven posters because they want to see how someone else interprets the stories that Beethoven was trying to tell and how they may offer some assistance in the area of understanding a bit better what Beethoven was trying to say. But whether you order Wagner posters for their grand over the top imagery or purchase Chopin posters for their direct approach at putting the composer's inherit anger across you are sure to get images that will help you better understand what exactly these great composers from years gone by were trying to say. Obviously we are not going to get Beethoven to sit and pose for a picture as he has been dead for hundreds of years but even if he were alive he may decline the opportunity to put his image into a poster format. For these composers the music was the thing and it was their never ending quest to put their story into music that drove them to create the masterpieces we listen to today. They were driven strongly by the urge to get their emotions into their work but yet have the whole thing make sense. Each story was different but each approach was typical of that composer and that is the image we are left of each of those composers in our modern day. |
